One of the "stand-alone" Brookmyres: not part of the Parlabane or Angelique de Xavia sequences. Possibly a good introduction to his books if you haven't read him before. A life of action-packed, life-threatening adventure suddenly descends upon a Scottish housewife. Full of typical Brookmyre sardonic humour and geekery.

I did not hate this book as I expected to. Sometimes low expectations are the best approach. It was an easy read that threw in interesting bits and pieces of information that I had never thought of before.

What an absolute treat! I ADORED this book from the very first page--the lyrical poetry of the writing, the quiet introspection of the narrators, the subtle symbolism. This book is an interesting mixture of "Sophie's World" in it's philosophy, "Are You There God, It's Me Margaret" in it's coming of age perspective, and "Pride & Prejudice" in it's swoon-worthy, tender, and unlikely love story. Completely sublime. I suspect I will be re-reading this in the not so distant future.
