I knew for years that someday I wanted to try out surfing. My problem was usually that I was nowhere near a beach. Last summer, when I booked a trip to visit friends in California, I also took the opportunity to track down a surfing instructor and get a lesson in. Then I hit the bookstore in search of a guide to help me prepare. I picked this book mainly because it was geared specifically for women, but I found it extremely helpful in terms of teaching me exercises to do for strength training, practicing my pop-ups, form, and learning the jargon ahead of time. I'm glad I did it, both because surfing is a very demanding sport and also is definitely its own subculture that you want to get to know so you don't sound like a poseur :)

A fantastic book. Told through Dinah, one of Jacob's daughters (Genesis- I think she's only mentioned once in the Bible). But the whole story is about her and the other women in her family - all only footnotes in the Bible, a male-centric text. The characters really come alive and it's so interesting to see all of it playing out while huge biblical events are occurring in the background.

loved this book and the ultimate gift Carolyn and Sean Savage gave up with no strings attached. I loved knowing they have a blog I can follow at the end and she has since received twins through a surragate and what a touching story. I loved this book, and a fun great interesting read about families, values, and doing what your heart tells you is right.
