Pynchonesque characters and excellent writing made this a very enjoyable read. Loaded with laughs and pop-culture references, I'd recommend this to everyone. Looking forward to Giraldi's 2nd book, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Pages one through ninety three of Yann Martel's Life of Pi had one three letter abbreviation constantly flowing through my head: W.T.F. The haze of ramblings of a young and possibly confused Indian boy were initially rather difficult to keep pace with. However, when the book dives into its main story, where Pi is adrift at sea with the company of a 450 pound bengal tiger, things get interesting quickly. Before I knew it 200 pages where gone, and boring was the last word I would have used to describe the story. The pace did seem to slow a bit here and there, with much of the story becoming sort of repetitive before long. Also it seemed to me that there was some gratuitous details concerning the body parts of animals, but the pros outweigh the cons for this book in my opinion.
